Paper Mill Still Waiting for State's Decision

The Abitibi paper mill in Lufkin is still waiting on a decision about its wastewater discharge permit.

Members of the Lone Star Chapter of the Sierra Club filed a motion with the state in December to overturn changes approved to the permit. They're worried that waste from the paper mill could be dangerous for fish in Lake Sam Rayburn and the Angelina River.

The Abitibi mill has been shut down for about two years. The group says it's not against the reopening of the paper mill, but if it does reopen, they want it to be safe and environment friendly.
