Hotel Housing Deadline Passes

Many hurricane evacuees still calling area hotels home are now on their own. As of Wednesday, FEMA has now stopped direct payment of hotel bills for most Katrina storm victims outside Louisiana and Mississippi.

FEMA extended the March 1st deadline for more than 7,000 evacuees in those areas because there isn't much housing available in the two hardest hit states. The new deadline for them is March 15th.

Evacuees still living in about 3,000 motel rooms in other states, including Texas, must now find other housing or pay for the hotel rooms themselves.
