Statistics show it takes longer for people who have filed for unemployment to find a job than those who don't file.

In fact, the numbers show on average, it takes up to 13 more weeks to find a job.

Unemployment agencies believe part of the reason is that people who get unemployment checks are able to be more selective about picking a desirable job. At Workforce Solutions of Deep East Texas, as soon as someone files for unemployment, they are put into the system to find a job.

Maria Kassabaum, the managing director of Workforce Solutions, said, "When they register for unemployment they are required to attend an orientation and they can go through retraining or workshop."

A congressional subcommittee plans to have a hearing on the issue to figure out if reform is needed in the process for filing unemployment claims.
