Bush Says Economy Strong

President Bush says he's "encouraged by the strength of our economy."

In his White House news conference, Bush said the U-S economy grew at "a healthy three-point-five percent" last year with inflation "contained" and good job growth.

Bush credits American workers and "good policies" for the state of the economy.

Bush says his priorities for working with Congress are to extend tax cuts, restrain spending and cut the deficit.

The president says America can't take a "growing economy for granted." He says the government needs to invest in research and education and cut American dependence on foreign oil.
