The Lufkin Host Lions Club kicked off the 2006 rodeo season in Angelina County Tuesday.
This year's rodeo promises to be bigger and better than ever. Some of the best livestock and cowboys in the world will be featured in the event.
The rodeo is an annual fundraiser for the Lions club. The money that comes in goes to local charities.
Mike Mathis, "Mr. Rodeo," said, "We raise as much as possible and we do that for a number of great charities. We're talking about the Wilson McKewen Rehabilitation Center - our endowment fund there - things like the state school volunteer services and a host of other charities. Our job is to support as many with as much as possible."
