Hundreds of Gambling Machines Seized in Raid

It's only been a couple days since authorities shut down six illegal gambling houses in Trinity County and almost everyone who lives here is still talking about it. Many have been waiting for authorities to step in.

Andy Wilson said, "I think it's a great deal if the Texas Rangers come in and straighten things up. There's a need to change things in Trinity County and anything that anybody comes in and does that improves things, I'm all for it."

Hundreds of 8-liner machines more than $29,000 were seized from Junior's on Highway 19, the Shamrock Club on Highway 94, and several other places. The managers were arrested.

"They should be shut down and stopped from doing it," said a Trinity County resident. "I don't think it should just be open to the public."

The Palace, Silver Spur, and 356 Entertainment were also raided and shut down. Chick Anita Williams, William Joseph Duke, Jr., David Brimmer, Kathy Thompson, Tammy Burke, and Brenda Smith were all arrested and charged with engaging in organized criminal activity, gambling promotions, keeping a gambling place, and possession of a gambling device and gambling paraphernalia.

A total of 365 gambling machines were taken in the bust. The businesses raided had been operating for at least two years.
