2006 Drug Survey Summary has Disappointing Results

by Ramonica R. Jones

The results are in for the 2006 Drug Survey for Angelina County and the findings are not good news. The study shows the amount of drug and alcohol use for Angelina County students in grades 6, 8, 10, and 12.

Meth and crack cocaine use among boys in the 12th grade is double the national average. Boys also use marijuana and smoke cigarettes at higher rates than girls in all grades.

Hudson High School student, Rebecca Brock, said, "A lot of my friends don't use drugs, but I do see more people experimenting with drugs and alcohol and things like that."

Sixteen percent of high school seniors who've done drugs in the past 30 days said they used the drugs at a party. Eleven percent used at a friend's house. About seven percent report using drugs at home.
