Two East Texans Killed in Separate Wrecks on the Same Highway

by Ramonica R. Jones

Two East Texans are dead after two separate wrecks on the same highway in Newton County.

The first crash happened on Highway 87 near Deweyville. Forty-year-old Mark Apperson of Orange was headed south when his jeep left the road and rolled several times. He and his 12-year-old son were thrown from the vehicle.

The boy is in stable condition. Apperson died after a pistol discharged during the rollover, hitting him in the back.

The second crash happened near Bleakwood. Billy Odom was killed when he drove his pickup underneath a freightliner. Troopers said the big rig was making a U-turn when Odom crashed into it.
