Special Session Starts Monday

Another special session to talk about funding public school education in Texas is set for Monday.

Last year, the Texas supreme court ruled the state's reliance on property taxes to fund its 33-billion dollar education system is illegal. The court mandated a freeze on school spending if lawmakers do not come up with a new funding system by the first of June.

State Representative Jim McReynolds has been hosting town hall meetings across East Texas to gather public input on public school finance.

Lawmakers are trying to come up with a fair plan that relies less on property taxes.
