City Leaders Honored Some of Their Finest

Lufkin city leaders honored three of their finest Tuesday for saving a family trapped in a deadly fire. Police officers Bradley Baker, Clay VanEman, and Bradley Davis each received service awards for their heroic efforts.

The men helped save two children and their grandmother from an early morning house fire on Casper Street last month. The men weren't wearing any protective gear when they pulled the family members out of the burning house. Davis was treated for smoke inhalation.

"The little boy was outside the window and the grandma was halfway in, halfway out of the window," said Davis. "We got the little boy out of the way and then we helped the grandma out of the window and then we got some information from her that there were still two people inside."

Sixty-five year-old Reverend Robert Session died in the fire. He was pastor of Goodwill Missionary Baptist Church in Lufkin. His wife Merilyn was at the meeting. She also thanked the officers for saving her family's life.
