Bank Robbery

The Chireno bank was robbed Wednesday afternoon. Soon afterwards the suspect was arrested and is now in jail.

Around 3 p.m. deputies were called to the Hibernia Bank in downtown Chireno. The robber walked inside the bank and left with a large amount of currency. He never showed a gun and fled in a car that later ran out of gas on Hiway 7 east near the Shelby County line.

Sheriff Thomas Kerss said, "A lady that lives in the vicinity advised an individual approached her residence asking her to borrow some gasoline and asking to make entry. She denied that request and called the authorities."

The suspect is 26 year old Leterrick Rodgers from Nacogdoches. He was recently released from prison for robbing a credit union. He was arrested after fleeing into some woods.
