More than 200 People Showed Up for Health Fair

About 200 East Texans showed up for a weekend health fair in Lufkin. More than a dozen of them got tested for sexually transmitted diseases.

Several local groups sponsored the event in honor of National STD Awareness Month. The fair targeted the black and hispanic communities, but stopping the spread of STDs is everyone's responsibility.

Bobbie Wilson, Health Horizons prevention specialist, said, "HIV is in Nacogdoches as well as in the other counties that we do cover - Jasper, Angelina, and Cherokee County - [and so is] syphilis."

If you missed the fair, you can call or stop by Health Horizons in Nacogdoches for an STD test. All services there are free.
