Teachers, school administrators, and community leaders were in Lufkin Tuesday for the East Texas Gear Up project. The workshop focused on the 40 assets of healthy development in children.
The event was different from other teacher trainings because students were allowed to participate and talk about issues that affect them.
Bobbie Davis, Gear-Up Director for Stephen F. Austin State University, said, "All different sectors are coming together and saying 'what's right' with kids, rather than gathering and just saying 'what's wrong' with kids. These are all positive strategies - what we can do to support kids in doing the right things."
