New Day Care Opens in Lufkin

New Generation Learning Academy on North Timberland just opened a couple years ago, but owners, Shante and Jacqueline Kennedy, know what it takes to raise happy, healthy children. They are now the proud owners of New Generation Learning Academy II.

Shante Kennedy said, "We have a curriculum that we're working on and we're also gonna do things to implement God [and] Christianity into the curriculum. We're not forcing it, but we're gonna put it out there for the children."

The new day care will offer all-day child care and afterschool programs for newborns to kids up to 12 years old.

Jacqueline Kennedy said, "We're open and taking applications at this time. We'll actually have the children start entering next Monday."

The center is at the site of the old Lufkin Day Care. That facility shut down last September after almost 70 years of service because of financial difficulty and declining enrollment.

"We're just looking forward to re-opening and we hope that everyone would come and support us; bring their children," said Shante. "We will do all we can to take care of them. We're just trying to help this new generation know all that they can to make this community a better place."

New Generation Learning Academy is on Martin Luther King, Drive. The center will be open Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. To enroll your child, call (936) 634-7407. The cost of registration will depend on the age of your child.
