Balloons Released in Honor of Abused Kids

by Ramonica R. Jones

Hundreds of balloons were released in Lufkin Thursday in honor of Child Abuse Awareness Month

Mayor Louis Bronaugh and County Judge Joe Berry read a proclamation at the event. Thousands of kids are sexually, physically, and mentally abused every day. Some of that abuse is happening in East Texas.

Pamela Thomas, president of the Angelina Foster Parents Association, said, "We are asking people to really support our kids more and to make donations to help us to help our kids do better and for our foster-adopt kids."

The group released 500 balloons in honor of all Texas children abused and neglected each year.

Adoption unit caseworker, Laurel Towne, said, "If you won't do it, who will? We're really encouraging those that have a heart for children to participate and look into being a foster-adoptive family."

If you'd like to help foster kids in need, you can make a $2.00 donation at Texas State Bank in Lufkin.
