Voting Problems

It took election officials longer than expected Saturday night to get the election results out. They planned to release final numbers about 8:00 p.m. But, the results were not available until exactly 10:14 p.m.

Election Administrator Bill Shanklin says the delays were caused by the Election Result Program they bought from a company in Omaha, Nebraska. The technical support group there was having a difficult time figuring out the problem in separating voting results between the City of Lufkin and City of Hudson.

Apparently, the machine was combining the two city's results.

Shanklin said, "I'm going to take the numbers out for the City of Hudson, and when I did that, I was able to come up with a good report for the City of Lufkin."

Other than that one glitch, Shanklin says using the new voting machines makes the process a lot faster.
