Leadership, commitment, and passion are only some of the words used to describe long time Lufkin resident Anna Belle Burke.
The 88-year-old died Sunday morning at her home. Burke is best known for her commitment to help raise awareness for the mentally disabled in Angelina County. She and her husband, Ward, worked as a team as they were instrumental in beginning The Burke Center.
Anna Belle was also instrumental in getting services in the community for the mentally challenged. She began with the state school, and special education programs in other schools.
