Troopers Have Some Memorial Day Travel Advice for Drivers

Memorial Day is the first major holiday of the summer season and almost 40 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more to kick off the celebration.

East Texas law enforcement agents call Memorial Day a well-traveled holiday. They have some travel advice for motorists who plan to hit the road for the weekend.

State Trooper Greg Sanches wants drivers to remember "the laws are tough in Texas and also, that they would not want to get in a wreck and hurt somebody else or kill somebody. What we're asking is refrain from drinking and driving. If you're gonna drink and party, then get a designated driver or plan to stay where you're gonna party."

And remember, the Click-it-or-Ticket campaign is also in effect right now. In addition to drunk drivers, highway troopers are also on the lookout for drivers not buckled up.
