Big Rig Wreck Stops Traffic

A big-rig wreck brought traffic to a stand still for several hours Thursday morning in Lufkin.

The wreck happened around 7:15 a.m. at Highway 59 and College near Angelina College. A truck driver headed south on 59 fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into another 18-wheeler. That big-rig then crashed into a third 18-wheeler.

Traffic was backed up all the way to the loop for several hours while emergency crews tried to clean up the mess. The driver who fell asleep at the wheel was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. The other big rig drivers were treated at the scene.
