County Commissioners Dealing With Fuel and Energy Costs

The Nacogdoches County commissioner's court is having to make adjustments because of skyrocketing energy costs.

Nacogdoches County Sheriff Thomas Kerss asked for a $68-thousand budget increase to cover gas, inmate transport, and handling the increase in the jail population. In fact, 12 inmates have been transported to the San Augustine jail because of overcrowding. Commissioners approved the budget request. The extra money will come from the reserve fund.

The commissioners also approved a $110-thousand increase to pay for utilities and the higher cost of natural gas. That money will also come from the general fund.

Many area counties are facing the same problems when it comes to gas prices and utility costs.
