East Texas Woman Appeals Capital Murder Conviction

An East Texas woman who killed a teenager five years ago is now appealing her capital murder conviction.

Desiree Lingo-Perkins of Cherokee County was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Kyle McElroy in 2000. It took authorities several years to find her because she fled to Mexico after the killing.

Lingo-Perkins demanded $200,000 From the teen's father for his son's safe return, but authorities later found Kyle McElroy's body in a remote location. He'd been strangled to death.

Lingo-Perkins believes the court should not have let the tape of her phone call to the teen's father be played in court.
