Several weeks ago, hundreds of East Texans were told by Workforce Solutions of Deep East Texas their temporary jobs would be ending because of a lack of funds in the National Emergency Grant, but some employees received an extension. "We've got quite a few employees because of Katrina and Rita came through here and we've been able to assist with employment in public service job that may run out the 30th of this month," says Jon Bonn.
Even though the jobs will end soon, there is good news for those employees and East Texans who are looking for a job. "Workforce Solutions is going to sponsor a job fair next Thursday June 15th from 9:00 a.m until 2:00 p.m. We have over 20 employers and these are major employers in the area. They are going to have their tables set up and its not just to accept applications. It's kind of unique they are ready to accept applications and conduct interviews," says Bonn.
Workforce Solutions estimates hundreds of jobs will be available and they're excited about this opportunity. "It's a good feeling when it works our whole mission here is to match employers with employees and vice versa, so we have a unique opportunity to a lot of employers who are needing employees and the timing is just right," says Bonn.
