Beware of Phone Scams

Authorities have a warning for East Texans about phone scams.

One scam now being reported in the area involves a caller saying they are with an out of the country lottery. They tell people to receive the winnings they have to pay a small fee.

Another scam, involves a caller telling people they can get a government grant, but to get it they need to provide credit card and account information. Both of these are scams.

If you receive a suspicious call, here are some simple tips to follow:

Always ask for a call back number. That is because scam artists will usually block their numbers. Ask questions like addresses, names, and phone numbers. And, never give out personal information including account and credit card numbers to someone you don't know.
