Man Convicted of Shooting His Ex-Girlfriend's Mother

Testimony ended Wednesday in the trial of a Lufkin man. He was convicted of shooting his ex-girlfriend's mother.

Barbara Page was at her daughter's apartment last July preparing to go to a church picnic. Leo Mathews showed up and accused them of calling his probation officer. Mathews started cursing at them and wouldn't let them leave the apartment. He pulled out a gun and started shooting, hitting page twice.

Mathews pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.

Page said, "They want to sit up and say he crazy, he ain't crazy. He know what he doin'. He lived with me. I know him and he need to get help and have plenty of time to think about what he done."

Jurors found Mathews guilty of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. They sentenced him to ten years in prison.
