Election Signatures Verified

The results are in and Independent candidates for Texas governor Carole Keeton Strayhorn and Kinky Friedman have made the November seventh ballot.

The secretary of state's office made the notification. That office also oversaw verification of their petition signatures. Strayhorn and Friedman will be on the ballot with Republican Governor Rick Perry and Democrat Chris Bell. Both independent candidates turned in far more petition names than the 45-thousand, 540 required by the May eleventh deadline. The signatures had to be from registered Texas voters who did not cast ballots in the Republican or Democratic primaries this spring.

Strayhorn was elected state comptroller as a Republican, but she chose to run for governor as an independent. Friedman is an author and musician.
