Grandma and Kinky want to be on the ballot

The signatures for independent candidates for Texas governor Carole Keeton Strayhorn and Richard Friedman have been verified by the state and now comes the next hurdle for the two candidates.

Now they want their nicknames on the ballot. Carole Keeton Strayhorn wants voters to see "Grandma" as part of her ballot name. Richard "Kinky" Friedman wants to be known as "Kinky Friedman."

Texas Secretary of State Roger Williams asked both candidates to supply more information. Early indications are that Williams will probably let Kinky be Kinky and Grandma be Carole. They are in a historic race with Strayhorn, Friedman, Republican Governor Rick Perry, Democrat Chris Bell and Libertarian James Werner.

The Secretary of State has to decide how the two independent candidates will be listed on the ballot must come some time before the ballot is certified 55 days before the November 7th election.
