Youth Empowering Youth at Conference

by Ramonica R. Jones

The Youth 4 Youth Conference started Monday in Lufkin. The program's goal is to educate East Texas students about living a healthy and safe life.

Bullying, anger management, and teen pregnancy are some of the issues teenagers have a hard time dealing with. But organizers said the conference is both educational and fun while teaching them how to cope with their problems.

About 185 kids from several area churches registered for the conference.

Pastor Donnie Sanders of Prevailers Family Church said, "We're dealing with juvenile crime. We're dealing with drugs and alcohol. We're dealing with teen suicide, depression, sexual abuse. We're just covering a whole bunch of issues that I feel that our youth are being targeted by."

The Youth 4 Youth Conference ends Thursday. It is open to kids ages nine to 18. If you'd like to attend, just show up at Dunbar Primary School at 8:00 a.m.
