Police Investigate Car Chase Suspect

by Ramonica R. Jones

Lufkin police are still trying to figure out why a woman led them on a high speed chase after they pulled her over. They're still unsure if Kaven Readis is even her real name.

The 28-year-old did have a warrant, but a search of her SUV did not turn up any contraband. An officer stopped the Ford Explorer because it had an expired registration tag, but Readis sped off through Lufkin and Huntington before pulling over just outside Zavalla after she hit a police spike in the road.

Corporal David Garza said, "We contacted McClain County S.O., which is in Oklahoma, and they told us that they had a warrant for conspiracy to commit forgery but they would not extradite; and that's what I believe made her run - she thought she was wanted - but they were not [going to] come get her in Texas."

The woman in the vehicle with Readis was not charged because she had no part in the crime. Simply being a passenger in a police chase is not against the law.
