Man Accused of Cutting His Girlfriend with a Machete

The Lufkin Police Department is investigating a domestic dispute involving a machete. Fifty-one year-old Billy Ray Thomas is now charged with aggravated assault.

Authorities responded to an attempted suicide Tuesday in the 1000 block of North First Street. Thomas' girlfriend was taken to a hospital after she drank roach poison. That's when hospital officials noticed she had a three-inch laceration on her forehead.

The woman told them Thomas cut her with a machete during an argument the night before. Thomas reportedly hid her cell phone so she couldn't call police after the attack.
