Continuance Filed for Accused Bank Robber

The case of a Lufkin man accused of robbing the Hibernia Bank two years ago will have to wait for a while.

The trial for Michael Ellis was scheduled to start Monday in Beaumont's federal court. A new date has now been set for October 16th.

Investigators said 40 year old Ellis walked into the Hibernia Bank on South First Street in Lufkin back in June of 2004. Bank tellers said he had a note demanding money and claiming he had a bomb.

Police arrested Ellis just eight minutes after the robbery. If convicted, he faces up to 25 years in prison.
