Ground Broken for New Lufkin Swim Center

Some East Texas kids are looking forward to much cooler summers. The Boys & Girls Club in Lufkin broke ground Wednesday at the site of its new aquatic center.

The swimming pool will take about six months to build. It'll be similar to the aquatic center at the Boys & Girls Club in Nacogdoches. The pool will be built at the club on Angelina Street, but will be open for the public to enjoy.

Chris Harkness, Assistant Executive Director for the Boys & Girls Club, said, "This pool is for both adults and youths in Lufkin and Diboll. The pool will be used for adult programs as well as programs for our kids. It will be open to the public. It will offer swim lessons. It will offer things like water aerobics."

The $900,000 project is expected to double the club's membership of 250 kids.
