Federal Grant Money for Hurricane Repairs

The Governing Board of the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA) has approved an award of $74.5 million in federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds to four councils of government (COG) helping rebuild homes and critical infrastructure damaged or destroyed by Hurricane Rita.

While housing related activities may begin immediately, eligible non-housing projects will come before the TDHCA Governing Board for final approval at its August 30 Board meeting.

The Department awarded $38.9 million to SETRPC, headquartered in Beaumont; $19 million to DETCOG, which has offices in Jasper and Lufkin; $10.7 million to H-GAC, headquartered in Houston; and $2.1 million to ETCOG, which is headquartered in Kilgore.
