Gift of Love: Lisby, Sweet Girl Needs Encouragement

Left with no family and a lot of uncertainty, an East Texas girl is looking for some stability in her life. Her name is Lisby. She's spent several years in foster care. Here's her story in KLTV 7's Gift of Love report.

Some of Lisby's favorite things to do are writing in her journal and art projects. As we colored at Michael's Arts and Crafts in Tyler she tells me, "I also like to play outside. I like soccer, basketball, cheerleading and playing with barbie's." Then, with a smile, she says, "I like shopping, too. I like to shop for clothes."

Lisby has been in foster care almost four years, removed because of severe abuse and neglect. Her past has left her untrusting.

"She is shy. It takes her a long time to get used to people especially adults, even her peers. When she first moved to the home she is in now she was very quiet and she didn't really talk to anyone." Shannon White, Lisby's CPS caseworker, goes on to say, "That one-on-one interaction is so important for Lisby. She loves just positive attention. She needs someone to bring out the person in her that has just been shut down by so many bad experiences."

Lisby has been moved to several different homes, switching schools often. It has made it difficult for her to make progress both academically and personally. Shannon says, "She's sweet. She's loving. She is just in need of a home that all of us take for granted you know like everyday hugs and kisses and love. Just all of those things that we grew up with and she never had."

Lisby has a birthday in August. She will be 11 years old. She would do best as the only or youngest child in a family.

This young girl continues to learn to deal with her past but, her future could hold great things, if she can find the gift of love today.

"Her potential could go beyond what anyone could imagine. She just needs someone to help her realize that she can do whatever she wants to do," says Shannon.
