LaKendrick Yarbrough Remembered

by Larry Little

They called him "Jack". He wore #30 and #45. Lakendrick Yarbrough was a star football and basketball player in Timpson, but young Lakendrick's life was cut short when he collapsed in Timpson at a basketball game, since that time, it's been a day by struggle for family members.

"It's been hard trying to make it around here because we used to go together, ride a four wheeler together and we use to play together," says Roberto Bussey.

"Everybody still has their moments. Everybody still talks about him all the time to keep the memory fresh, but we are a pretty strong family," says Charleston Johnson.

Lakendrick would have celebrated his 16th birthday this week, so family members decided to honor him Saturday with the celebration he always wanted at the park in Timpson.

"He turned 16 on August 2nd and he was talking about this big party that he wanted, so we decided to dedicate this day which we called "Jack's Day," in memory of him and in honor of his birthday," says Johnson.

Though it's been 7 months since Lakendrick's death the pain is fresh for friends and family, but the pain from the loss is being made easier by a community coming together.
