Rising Gas Prices Do Have an Advantage

Gas prices are going up in East Texas, but gas drive-offs are happening less.

Authorities said fewer gas thefts are being reported in Lufkin. One big reason is more businesses now require gas customers to pay first.

Some drivers don't like having to pay before they pump, but gas station employees said it's working. They're seeing fewer drive-offs.

Darla Boles said, "We have them to pre-pay. Sometimes they [have a problem with it] but they understand."

Several East Texas gas stations started enforcing pre-paying for fuel just after Hurricane Katrina. That's when drive-offs started happening more often.
