Accused Killer Will Be Sent to Mental Hospital

An East Texas teenager accused of murder has been found incompetent to stand trial.

Tommy Middleton will be sent to the North Texas State Hospital in Vernon next week. A psychologist who examined him recently expects him to regain competency in two to three months.

Middleton is charged with deadly conduct and two counts of aggravated assault. Investigators said he unloaded dozens of rounds from an AK 47 into his neighbor's home in Trinity County. That shooting left a 50-year-old Onalaska woman dead.

Middleton was reportedly worried the family would hurt a small pet alligator he'd put in a pond behind their home.
