A man accused of stealing checks from several East Texas banks made an appearance in court Friday.
Kenneth Hoyle was arraigned in federal court in Lufkin. Investigators said he and five other people cooked up a scheme to get actual checks with correct account and routing numbers from customers who banked at ten institutions.
Somehow they copied those checks and changed the amounts and payees' names on them. They later cashed them, stealing $80,000 in the scam. The banks have already contacted their customers affected by the theft.
