Right of Way Acquisitions are Almost Complete

Big changes continue to happen along Highway 59 in Lufkin. Several businesses are now gone. It's part of the state highway department's plan to ease traffic flow in East Texas.

Arby's and Days Inn are no longer there and as construction on the Near-Term Project begins, more changes can be expected.

Drivers are urged to be patient as the project gets underway because it'll be worth the headaches in the long run.

Steve Evans, R-O-W Administrator, said, "We anticipate around three years of construction time."

The state has acquired 80 percent of the land it needs for the Right-of-Way Project. It affects Brentwood and Whitehouse to the loop and back around to Tulane.
