Red Cross Prepares For Disaster

The local American Red Cross is ready if a storm hits.  The organization has been preparing for months.

Right now, the Red Cross has nine trailers in Lufkin filled with supplies.  This included 8-hundred cots, comfort kits, and blankets.  More than 17-thousand heater meals are also being stored.

Glenna Harkenss, with American Red Cross, said, "I think we have always asked for supplies ahead of time, just east Texas has never received them. So, we were very fortunate for Red Cross to go ahead and preposition them this year. A lot of it is due to what happened last year with Rita, we just took a really hard hit, and I think they realized we need this assistance."

There are several training sessions going on in September on Mondays and Thursday.  Contact the local Red Cross for more information.
