A Safe Holiday Weekend

The last holiday weekend of the summer, Labor Day, has arrived.

Many East Texans are hitting the highways. Gas prices are at an all time low and authorities believe cheaper gas will allow more people to travel.

Law enforcement officers are beefing up patrols and enforcing traffic laws, but, most of all, keeping east Texas lakes and roadways safe.

"We really take this as a serious holiday as far as enforcing the speed laws and making sure people are buckling up. Another thing that's important, probably the most important, is alcohol and making people aware if they are going to drink they sure don't need to get behind the wheel and drive," says DPS Trooper Greg Sanches.
