So far, two suspects in the sexual assault investigation in Groveton have been arrested. The 17-year-olds made a court appearance Wednesday in a San Jacinto County courtroom.
After the hearing, the judge released both teens to their parents. Police charged the Groveton High School students with aggravated sexual assault of a child.
Authorities and school administrators are not saying much about the students, the accusations against them or their investigation. In fact, the Trinity County sheriff told the East Texas News he had no idea there was an investigation. He said he found out about the case after hearing about it Sunday at church.
Groveton school officials said they hope the investigation wraps up soon because they're getting a lot of phone calls from concerned parents asking questions they can't answer.
The investigation centers around some Groveton High School football players accused of being part of a sexual assault of a minor.
Groveton school officials said they could not talk about the case while police are investigating.
