Sex Education in East Texas Schools

Bethany Clopp has two teenagers, Jeffery and Jessica. She's already started educating them about sex. "What to be aware of their own body and their own personal space and how not to interfer in anyone elses personal space and to be sure to always respect one another," says Bethany Clopp.

Don Allen is in charge of curriculum at Central ISD. "I think schools probably feel like I know we do in our local area need to be careful about how we present sex education for most of our parents they feel like that's their responsibility," says Don Allen.

For now Central students are taught hygiene and limited sex education in Jr. High health classes, similar to what's done in several other area schools, but educators are leaning toward expanding sex ed offerings in the future and taking an even more serious approach to what they consider an important subject.
