H-E-B, in an effort to reach out to Texas communities, will partner with the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) in September and October to promote enrollment in both Children's Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP).
Participating H-E-B locations will provide in-store outreach and application assistance events promoting both BHIP and Children's Medicaid. Both programs provide medical coverage for a wide range of health-care services for children who qualify.
New census statistics released in late August show that Texas is now ranked 49 in terms of "uninsurance" rates among children with about 19 percent of children lacking coverage. About one in five Texas children currently is without medical coverage. This partnership is expected to reduce that number, allowing more Texas children to receive adequate medical attention.
Communitybased organizations under contract with HHSC for outreach will staff the enrollment events in select H-E-B stores around Texas. Staff will be in the following Deep East Texas stores distributing brochures, talking to customers about CHIP and Children's Medicaid programs and assisting families in completing applications to obtain coverage:
