Immigration Issues to be Addressed

News Release:

The Deep East Texas Council of Governments (DETCOG) Board of Directors will hold their regular monthly meeting Thursday, September 28th, at the Picket House in Woodville. A Grants Application Review Committee meeting will be held at 11:30 a.m. at the same location.

 Welcoming members and guest to Tyler County will be Tyler County Judge, Jerome Owens; the Mayor of Woodville, Tony Castillo and Jimmie Cooley from the Lower Neches River Authority. Lunch will be served at noon with the board meeting to immediately follow.

The special guest speaker at the luncheon will be Rhonda Harkey from Orgain, Bell & Tucker, LLP. Harkey will address growing concerns about immigration. DETCOG's Board President, Judge Joe Folk, would like to extend an invitation to the meeting to all interested parties.

    During a Monday night special meeting, Nacogdoches Independent School District named Sandra Dowdy the lone finalist for the superintendent position. Dowdy has served as interim for the last several months. Per a press release from NISD, Dowdy was selected from a field of 45 applicants. A state mandated 21-day period must pass between the board naming her as the lone finalist and formally naming her as the next superintendent of Nacogdoches schools.
