Proud Of East Texas: Lillie Taylor

Born in 1897 during the presidency of Grover Cleveland, Lillie Taylor has seen 22 presidents come and go from the oval office of the White House. At 109 years of age, she has also lived through the First and Second World Wars, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm and the War Against Terror.

Born of early settlers of the Brownsboro community, Lillie married Robert Taylor in 1919. They had ten children, six of whom are still living. Lillie now heads up five generations of East Texans, who gather annually to celebrate her birthday.

While the years have brought Lillie Taylor dim eyesight and the aches and pains of aging, it also has brought her notoriety. In 2005 Lillie was selected "Queen For A Day" at the East Texas Fair. President George Bush and Former President Bill Clinton have both congratulated Lillie on her longevity.
