So Taguchi, a late-inning substitution, homered to break a tie as the St. Louis Cardinals scored three runs in the ninth in a 9-to-6 win over the New York Mets. Taguchi connected off Mets closer Billy Wagner.
The Cards scored insurance run when Scott Spiezio singled home a run. Juan Encarnacion drove in the ninth run of the night for the Cards with a single.
That evens the National League Championship Series at one game apiece.
The Cards rallied from a 6-to-4 deficit. Spiezio's two-out triple high off the wall in the seventh inning drove in two runs to tie the game.
Carlos Delgado has homered twice and has driven in four of the Mets' six runs.
