Police Investigate Stabbing at Halfway House

A Lufkin man has very serious injuries after being stabbed at a group home for mentally retarded patients.

Police arrested 29-year-old Raymond McBride for the attack. They said he stabbed a 20-year-old man with a large kitchen knife just after 8:00 a.m. Thursday at Innovative Homes of Deep East Texas.

The facility is located on Blue Bird and Live Oaks streets near an elementary school in Lufkin.

Police said the victim started a fight with someone in the home because he did not want to get on a school bus Thursday morning. He reportedly assaulted someone just before he was stabbed.

The men live there with several other clients. The victim was stabbed several times and taken to a Lufkin hospital with serious injuries.

Police charged McBride with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Management at Innovative Homes had no comment.
