Zavalla Fire Department Relief

More than a half dozen East Texas fire departments rushed to the scene of an out of control fire Monday in Angelina County.

That blaze destroyed the fire station in Zavalla.  It took an hour to put out the fire, but what was lost will take much longer to restore.

"Unfortunately, they've lost all their equipment except one truck, and I'm talking from bunker gear to air packs to rescue equipment for car wrecks - everything they had," said Assistant Fire Chief Bobby Cranford with the Fuller Springs Volunteer Fire Department. Cranford's unit was one of several fire departments to respond to the fire that destroyed an estimated $500,000 plus worth of equipment.

Members of surrounding fire departments will pitch in to cover fires in the Zavalla area until Zavalla's department is back up and running.

A relief fund has been established to help the Zavalla Volunteer Fire Department rebuild. Cash donations are being accepted at any Huntington State Bank, or may be mailed to:
