Volunteer Firefighters Need Your Help

An East Texas fire department needs help after fire destroyed their entire station and all of their equipment.

The Zavalla Volunteer Fire Department lost everything in a fire Monday afternoon. Now, they need donations and equipment to get back up and running again.

The fire does not look suspicious, but police do not know what caused it. It started around noon Monday in the back of the building.

Three brand new fire trucks bought with grant money were destroyed, but the department was able to save a fourth unit.

Fuller Springs V.F.D. Assistant Chief Bobby Cranford said, "Some of the industrial places around here might have air packs or bunker gear, medical supplies. They do a lot of EMS calls, a lot of car wrecks, and first responders calls, and they need everything, so anything anyone can help them with would be a great help."

The city owned the building that housed the fire station. The structure is insured, as are a small amount of office supplies inside. Donations can be made at any Huntington State Bank or call Zavalla City Hall at (936) 897-3311.
