One and done!
That is not the kindest way to describe the respected volleyball season by the Lufkin Lady Panthers and the Diboll Ladyjacks.
Yes, both teams' seasons ended in the bi-district round of the state playoffs.
Lufkin was swept 3-0 by Klein and Diboll was swept by Mexia 3-0.
There were sweet moments including adversity before the bitter endings.
Lufkin fought and fought just to make it into the playoffs. The Lady Panthers' forced a district playoff for a playoff and succeeded.
Diboll lost their tallest player, Sade Green, on the second day of school. Green tore both her MCL and ACL on one of her knees.
Then, the toughest part of Diboll's story involved senior Lindsey Campbell. Her father lost his long bout with cancer during the week of their final regular season match.
Diboll needed a win to make the post-season.
The Ladyjacks won without Campbell, who was attending her father's visitation at the funeral home. The uplifting moment occured when Campbell's teammates contacted her by cell phone.
On the other end of the call was the entire Diboll volleyball team on speaker phone telling Lindsey, "We did it! We are going to the playoffs."
